The Honourable the Colonial Secretary,
Hong Kong.
Sir,
We desire to thank you for your letter of the 9th
May and have the honour to inform you that the information
contained therein was somewhat surprising, in that the first
paragraph of our letter to you of the 29th April, 1929, was not
understood.
We have no knowledge of any officer of the Merchant
Navy having met His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester during
his stay at Hong Kong but it is common knowledge that every
other service of the Colony was amply represented, at Queen's
Pier at the arrival ceremony.
It is owing to the very short stay that vessels have
in port and the many duties that Officers of this service have
to perform that they find it almost impossible to call at
Government House, and it is greatly regretted that this fact
does not appear to be known, beyond the Service itself.

in this Colony by S.3. Morea" on the 25th of April, 1929, as arranged, and left for Japan by H.M.S. "Suffolk" at 6 p.m. on
the 27th of April, 1929.
